Joseph Brodsky's (1940-1996) collections of poems, Stop in the Desert, The End of a Beautiful Era, Part of a Speech, New Stanzas to Augusta, Urania, and Landscape with a Flood, were published in the 1970s and 1990s by the American publishing house Ardis, which for many years published works of Russian literature that could not see the light of day in his homeland. Brodsky wrote that this publishing house saved numerous Russian writers and poets from oblivion and changed the very climate of Russian literature. The Urania collection includes poems from the 1970s and 1980s, including "Developing Plato," "The Autumnal Cry of the Hawk," "Venetian Strophes," "Roman Elegies," and many others.
