"Diplomacy is the art of controlling force." So says one of the most influential foreign policy statesmen of the twentieth century, Henry Kissinger. In 1969-1975 he was National Security Advisor to the American President, and from 1973 to 1977 he was the US Secretary of State. In his book, he describes how he fought the US's main adversary, the Soviet Union, through diplomatic means under Brezhnev; how the US managed to finally crush the USSR under Gorbachev. In addition, Kissinger assesses U.S.-Russian relations under Putin (with whom, according to media reports, he met 17 times) and writes about the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
