This book is devoted to the uniforms, equipment, and personal weapons of Russian naval personnel during the reigns of Emperors Alexander III and Nicholas II, as well as the period of the Provisional Government, i.e., from March 1881 to October 1917. During this era, the navy underwent rapid development, which led to various organizational and staffing innovations. Entire categories of naval ranks emerged, such as naval conductors and naval midshipmen. The naval department corps and the naval education system were repeatedly reformed. All of this had a significant impact on the uniforms and insignia of naval sailors.
This book is a logical continuation of "Uniforms of the Russian Navy. 1855-1881." The second volume includes information on the uniforms of the Navy Department corps, naval educational institutions, naval conductors and naval midshipmen, and several other categories of naval ranks. Chapters are devoted to the personal weapons and equipment of naval sailors, as well as descriptions of the rules for wearing various uniforms, orders, and insignia. Regulatory documents of the Navy Department, reference literature of the time, and archival materials were used in writing the book.
Illustrations include graphic documents from archival collections, historical photographs from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and photographs of authentic items from Russian and foreign museum and private collections. Much of the information presented is being published for the first time.
