This book is devoted to the uniforms, equipment, and weapons of the Russian Navy during the reign of Alexander II (1855–1881). This era is one of the most complex periods in the history of Russian naval uniforms, replete with various innovations and changes, and therefore has remained the least studied by specialists until now. This is the first published work in Russia since 1917 that provides a detailed examination of the evolution of Russian naval uniforms during the reign of Alexander II.
Structurally, the narrative is divided into a general section, which describes the changes in uniforms that applied to all or a significant portion of naval personnel, and chapters devoted to specific changes in the uniforms of various categories (admirals, members of the imperial retinue, naval crews, naval department corps, etc.). Special chapters describe weapons, equipment, and horse trappings. An appendix provides rules for wearing various types of uniform. The book features a wealth of reference and illustrative material from Russian and international museums and private collections, much of which is published for the first time. This publication is intended for a wide range of readers, including museum and educational institution staff, theater and film artists, fans of military history miniatures, military history reenactors, and anyone interested in the history of the Russian Navy.
