Issa was one of the first to move away from the usual canons of Japanese poetry, putting his personal observations and feelings into poems. For him, the main thing was always to capture the surrounding reality with maximum accuracy and find the beauty in the usual and ordinary things, usually completely ignored by his predecessors. And thanks to the fact that Issa wrote about his own experiences, the lines written by him allow not only to see the beauty of the world, but also to see the person hiding behind the three verses.
This edition includes the best haiku Issa, as well as fragments from the book of prose “My Spring” and the diary “The Last Days of the Father” – touching and piercing chronicles about how Issa cared for his dying seriously ill father.
Hokku “Quietly, quietly crawl, / Snail, on the slope of Fuji” gave the name of the famous story of the Strugatsky brothers “Snail on the slope”.
