Arkady Perventsev was a Russian Soviet writer, screenwriter, playwright and journalist. During the Great Patriotic War, he served as a political officer in the Red Army, with the rank of captain of the 1st rank. Together with Evgeny Petrov (co-author of Ilya Ilf), got into an airplane crash, miraculously survived. In novels and stories written in Soviet times, Perventsev did not write about what he had seen in the rear during the war. The whole truth about it he revealed only in his memoirs. "The war tears off all the faces," - said Perventsev, and, reading his memoirs, you realize what he meant. In the critical moments of the war in the rear sometimes happened out of the ordinary. Famous politicians, cultural figures, "rulers of thought" often appeared from an unsightly side - it is not by chance that they were nicknamed "rear rats".
