"Three in a Boat, Not Counting the Dog" was first published in England in 1889 and to this day remains an unsurpassed example of English humor. Jerome Klapka Jerome wrote a hilariously funny story of three friends, from boredom and fictional illnesses rafting down the Thames, under the impression of his own wedding trip, spent on a small boat. At the time, the fashionable thing to do were the unrealistic characters of Conan Doyle, Kipling and Stevenson, and the ordinary and somewhat ordinary friends G, George and Harris became real heroes for English readers. The success was resounding.
To date, the book is not only translated into almost all world languages - it has been repeatedly screened, adapted for stage, television and radio. The novel has influenced many humorists and satirists and also contributed to the development of river tourism. The continuation of the novel - "Three on Four Wheels" about a foreign bicycle tour - in the collection.
