In the new book of the author, based on the archival materials of the GPU of the Ukrainian SSR, OGPU and TsVMA, introduced into the scientific turnover, made an attempt to analyze the greatest tragedies of the Black Sea Fleet in the twentieth century - the death of the battleships "Empress Maria" (1916) and "Novorossiysk" (1955).
The surge of emotions experienced by the author in the mid 70's and 90's, after meetings with Anna Vasilievna Kniper (Temiryova) and survivors of the catastrophe, sailors of the battleship "Novorossiysk" led by the former commander of the BSF squadron N.I. Nikolsky on the 40th anniversary of the tragedy, gave the impetus for writing this book. The works of A.S. Elkin "The Arbat story" and B.A. Karzhavin "The mystery of the destruction of the battleship "Novorossiysk", and later the archival materials of the GPU of the Ukrainian SSR, OGPU and TsVMA, introduced into scientific circulation, were a great help for the work on the book.
Against the background of these great tragedies, the author, saddened by the tragic fate of the flagship of the Black Sea Fleet, dedicated chapters in the third part of the book to the memory of GRKR "Moscow". The cruiser more than forty years worthily carried the combat watch to protect the maritime borders of the Fatherland. In April 2022, being on combat duty, it met its last hour.
In addition, the book contains some details borrowed from the memories and stories of my comrades and friends, as well as relatives of the fallen heroes - eyewitnesses of those distant events.
