Eduard Tisse was one of the first Soviet cameramen and directors, a pioneer of cinema. His fate is complex and controversial, and not much is known about it. With Sergei Eisenstein he created legendary masterpieces - "Stachka", "Battleship Potemkin" and "October". Tisse's technique shaped the optical picture of early Soviet cinema. The book is a biography and filmography of Tisse, based on unique documentary material - letters, diary entries, publications of the Soviet and foreign press, rare photographs. While working on the book, the author collected materials scattered in archives all over the world.
