"We can't break into the Citadel, because there are tanks there..." - this is how one of the units of the 45th Infantry Division of the Wehrmacht reported about the unsuccessful attempt to take the Brest Fortress on June 22, 1941. The active use of armored vehicles by the Red Army was one of the main reasons for the failure of Hitler's plans to capture the Fortress ("the Russian began to defend persistently and stubbornly, especially behind our forward companies, using 35-40 tanks and reconnaissance armored cars in the fortress..."). The actions of Soviet armored vehicles forced the Nazis to be more cautious, fearing a "tank counterattack" stormers held back the actions of their infantry, and therefore - gave the defenders of the Fortress much needed time... This book, written by leading historians of the defense of the Brest Fortress, for the first time in all known to date details shows the actions of armored vehicles in its defense. Based on archival documents and recollections of participants (from both the Soviet and German sides), the authors have created a complete picture of the battles involving Soviet armored vehicles: management, tasks, use, and results. The publication is illustrated with more than a hundred unique photographs (taken, first of all, by Wehrmacht soldiers - participants of the assault), which not only correct and supplement the known facts about the defense of the Brest Fortress, but also provide information about completely new episodes of the legendary battle, which became a symbol of the Great Patriotic War.
