The T-72 became the world's most mass-produced tank of the second post-war generation - more than 30,000 of these vehicles were produced. It is the "seventy-two" tanks, which won well-deserved popularity among tankers for their simplicity and exceptional operational reliability, that still form the basis of the tank fleet of the Russian Federation. This truly legendary tank, which met Abrams and Chiftens in combat, was in service with all armies of the Warsaw Pact countries, was exported in large quantities to the Middle East, Asia and Africa, and during Perestroika it was even supplied to Finland. The T-72 participated in the Lebanon and Iran-Iraq wars, armed conflicts on the territory of the former Yugoslavia, Operation Desert Storm, and almost all wars in the post-Soviet space: Transnistria, Nagorno-Karabakh, the First and Second Chechen campaigns, South Ossetia, and Donbass. On the pages of the book by the leading historian of armored vehicles the reader will find a detailed description of the design, little-known facts about the history of creation, complete information about serial and licensed production, export, modernization (including the latest modification of the T-72B3, which became an alternative to the main battle tank T-90A "Vladimir"), combat and engineering vehicles based on the T-72, finally, the most interesting episodes of combat use of the famous tank. The publication is illustrated with exclusive drawings and photographs.
