At the edge of the supercontinent, between sky and sea, lies Luriath—a city of bright doors.

Doors are everywhere here. They appear in walls where they shouldn't be, stand out in bright warning paint, and silently watch over the city of art and greed, plagues and pogroms. They never open.

No one knows what lurks on the other side, but everyone has their own theory and their own relationship to the doors. Scientists conduct research and take samples, believers bring offerings of fruit and flowers, gather for prayers and rituals. Many believe the doors are the source of ghosts and nightmares from unspeakable worlds.

However, for the rare few who are not blessed with a special destiny, the doors become both a calling and a curse. Fetter is one of them.

On Fetter's birthday, his mother tore a shadow from him. She raised her son to be a weapon designed to kill his own father—a revered saint around whom a new religion arose. Now Fetter no longer belongs to either of his parents and follows neither of their paths.

He casts no shadow, is unaffected by gravity, and sees demons and anti-gods everywhere. Lacking a purpose of his own, Fetter dreams of being anyone but himself.

But perhaps the answer awaits him on the other side of one of those bright doors?
