Christmas story was one of the most popular genres of Russian pre-revolutionary literature - every year numerous newspapers and magazines, like a gift for Christmas, published these simple stories. They were written by both unknown authors and recognized classics: Chekhov, Leskov, Dostoevsky, Nemirovich-Danchenko, Gnedich. In the family circle, everyone, from small to large, was read by terrible “everydays” about evil spirits and good stories about the help of angels, stories about unfortunate orphans falling on the Christmas tree in rich houses, and about treasures hidden in the walls of ancient houses. . .

At the heart of any Christmas story is reliance on Christian spiritual traditions. This genre, whose history is rooted in the distant past of the Russian people, is permeated through the soul-warming light of goodness, warmth and love, the joy of the Christmas holiday. The book calls for the revival of the forgotten tradition of family reading and will be interesting for both children and adults.
