Once upon a time there was a poor prince. His kingdom was small, but it was still possible to marry, and the prince wanted to marry. Of course, it was a bit bold of him to ask the daughter of the emperor: "Will you marry me?" However, he bore a glorious name and knew that hundreds of princesses would thankfully respond to his proposal with consent. Well, expect it from the Emperor's daughter! Let's hear what happened. On the grave of the prince's father grew a rose bush of unspeakable beauty; it bloomed only once every five years, and it bloomed only one single rose. But it gave off such a sweet fragrance that one could forget all one's sorrows and worries while soaking it up. The prince also had a nightingale, which sang so wonderfully, as if in its throat were collected all the most marvelous melodies that exist in the world. Both the rose and the nightingale were intended as a gift to the princess; they were put in large silver boxes and sent to her.... And what came out of it, you will learn from this book - one of the most famous fairy tales of Hans Christian Andersen "The Pig Farmer". The funny and instructive story was illustrated in the rococo style by Anton Lomaev, an artist from St. Petersburg. He made one of the main characters of the book pigs of all ages and colors - attentive and ironic observers of the matchmaking of the poor prince to the arrogant daughter of the emperor.
