Chester the Cricket would never have left his meadow if it weren't for the tempting aroma of sausage from someone's picnic basket... So he found himself in a huge city, in a crowded subway station. But he was lucky enough to meet the mouse Slice, the cat Harry and the boy Mario, and they became his friends in adventures. However, it soon turns out that Chester has a very special talent and the village cricket is able to teach the residents of the fast-paced city a thing or two.

The book about the Cricket who settled in the subway station became a classic of children's literature, an animated film was made based on it, and in 1961 the book became a Newbery Award winner.
Garth Williams is a wonderful illustrator, well known to readers for such beloved books as "Stuart Little" and "Charlotte's Web".
