Peter Fleming's book is an attempt at a serious and objective study of the events that took place in Siberia after the revolution. Having accepted the cross of power, Admiral Kolchak became the Supreme Ruler of Russia under the exceptionally difficult conditions of the Civil War and the complete decay of the state system. Kolchak was treacherously extradited to the Bolsheviks by the Allied command at the behest of French General Jeanin. By sentence of a revolutionary court in February 1920, the admiral was shot.
