The publication offered to the readers is the first in the domestic practice of weapons reference book, which gives scientific and documentary substantiation of the existing formation samples of edged weapons, which were in service of the Russian Guard, Army and Navy in the period 1700-1881. Also for the first time in the guidebook scientific attribution of already known and newly identified samples of weapons is carried out. The wide range of weapons presented on the pages of the guidebook represents the richest funds of domestic and foreign museums: the State Hermitage, VIMAIV&VS, GIM, Tula State Museum of Arms, Moscow Kremlin Museums and the Museum of the Polish Army. To identify rare and little-known weapons, the authors had to turn to the holdings of regional Russian museums located in Vladimir, Dmitrov, Izhevsk, Krasnoyarsk, Kostroma, Omsk, Perm and Chita. Private domestic and foreign collectors made a notable contribution to the creation of a complete selection of weapons. To compile the documentary basis of the guide, in addition to the already published materials, the authors used unpublished sources from the collections of the leading Russian specialized archives: the Russian State Military History Archive; the Russian State Archive of the Navy; the Russian State Historical Archive; the Russian State Archive of Ancient Acts; the Archive of VIMAIV&VS and the State Archive of the Tula Region.
