Edward Luttwak is a renowned expert on military strategy and geopolitics. He served as a consultant to the National Security Council and the US State Department, and was an advisor to President Ronald Reagan. He is the founder of geoeconomics, a branch of geopolitics that studies the economic situation in various countries with the goal of increasing a state's influence through its economic strength and achieving its foreign policy goals, including global or regional power, through economic means.

The book "Strategy: The Logic of War and Peace" explores the "paradoxical" logic underlying strategic thinking. Four levels of strategy are discussed: technology, tactics, operational art, theater strategy, and grand strategy. The author analyzes a new type of war—"post-heroic wars"—born out of the fear of loss and the desire to avoid it at all costs.
