The book will open with a literary portrait of the writer written by Lenin Prize laureate Marietta Shaginyan. The reader will be introduced to Goethe's creative path by an essay by Doctor of Philology Sergei Turaev.

A realistic novel in letters by the great German poet, thinker and scientist, one of the founders of German literature, Johann Wolfgang Goethe, solves the problem of the relationship between a freedom-loving individual and bourgeois-noble society. The story of the unhappy love of young Werther acquires great social meaning and tragic resonance in the novel. The beginning of 1974 will mark 200 years since the publication of this novel.

The book will also include the first part of "Faust" - one of the most profound and perfect works of world literature, and a cycle of poems. Scenes from "Faust" are given in translations of different poets.
