This collection by Bill Peet (1915-2002), the famous American writer, screenwriter and animator of the Walt Disney Studios, includes two fairy tale stories: "Old Lady Lizzie and Miao-Mursi" and "A Story that makes your hair stand on end". Old Lizzie's once-fashionable and famous car was rusting away in a junkyard. She was destined for the same fate as all old cars: they are dismantled and sold off for parts. However, Lizzie was luckier: her engine was alive, and the owner of the junkyard sold Lizzie to a tall man with two suitcases and, as it turned out later, a lover of fast driving. The crazy daredevil got a cat named Miao-Mursi. When she saw that her motor home was leaving, Miao-Mursi jumped through the window and laid down on the back seat. Thus began the journey, which could well have been the last for our heroes, if not for the fortress of spirit of the old car and the sanity of the skinny cat. Lion Edward was proud of his luxurious mane and looked down on others. But fate likes to mock the arrogant, and just one small evil spark turned the object of his pride into a flaming bush. Along with his mane, the king of beasts lost all his arrogance. Now he wanted only one thing: to fall through the ground. Alas, hiding did not work, the poor guy was spotted by the old gossipy crow Curry and soon the whole savannah was discussing the shameful secret of the bald lion. Contrary to Edward's fears, the sight of his bare head caused the animals to sympathize with him. They all offered their solutions to this delicate problem, but only the elephant was able to move from words to action. He went alone to the swamp to get the magic medicine - crocodile tears.
