Stalker by Andrei Tarkovsky is one of the most mysterious and amazing films in Russian cinema. This is a parable film based on the story of the Strugatsky brothers “Picnic on the Roadside”, which incredibly influenced not only the art of Russia, but also the whole world.

The film was remade three times (!!!). Each time "Stalker" was waiting for another fatal accident: the production defect, the spoiled film, the conflict between the director and the operator. In 1978, Andrei Tarkovsky suffered a heart attack, but this did not prevent him from starting all over again with a new team. Only the third time Tarkovsky managed to finish his masterpiece. This book will take you there, on the set of the film “Stalker”, 1978, where the assistant operator worked Grigory Verkhovsky. He was not only lucky to see with his own eyes how the great master works, but also to capture it in the photo. And now, almost half a century later, he is ready to share his memories with the world!

Amazing beauty photos will take you through time behind the scenes of the legendary “Stalker”. You'll see a familiar movie in a new way and find out what was on the other side of the camera.

Grigory Solomonovich Verkhovsky is a Russian cinematographer and an outstanding photographer. He worked with such great directors as Ryazanov, Alov and Naumov, Zarkhi, Bulls, Nahapetov. Exhibitions of his photographs are held all over the world today!
