The book is dedicated to tank servicemen of the "Stalinist" USSR (the period from the late 20s to the mid-50s of the XX century) and is timed to the 90th anniversary of the birth of a new branch of the army, which the author attributes to 1929. For the first time in one work with the involvement of a mass of documentary sources and a large number of photographic materials, a significant set of interrelated issues of the history of the Soviet tank troops and the peculiarities of military service is considered. Among them is the history of the troops proper, where the main emphasis is placed on the description of organizational changes in the formations and units, as well as the central apparatus and the system of universities. Another important issue covered in the book is the service of the BTB personnel, command and rank-and-file, with special emphasis on the top command staff (generals), job categories and personal ranks, and the evolution of insignia. A significant place in the book is given to various types of military supplies, including uniforms (both uniform and special), footwear and equipment. All the rules of military uniforms in force during the period under consideration are well illustrated with color photographs of previously unpublished original items from private collections and museums, as well as a special series of painted reconstructions developed with the participation of experienced uniformologists directly for this book. The topic of the external appearance of tankers is logically completed by an excursion into the award system of the "Stalinist" USSR with a review of the wearing of badges of honor in the tank forces. Separate chapters are devoted to the OGPU/NKVD armored tank units and women in the tank forces, including their uniforms.
