A collection of soothing stories and effective relaxation techniques from world sleep expert Alice Gregory and children's author Christy Kirkpatrick. Warm, lulling tales of Sleepy Pebble, Grandpa Oak, cute snail Ole, cheerful giraffe Gabrielle, and funny piglet Paul will soothe baby to sleep. The stories are based on scientific research, recommendations of sleep experts and psychologists. Each of them combines three elements useful for relaxation: Imagination: the child will be able to visualize in the smallest detail the event described in the story. The imaginary picture will captivate him, and disturbing thoughts have no place. Muscle relaxation exercises - an effective non-medication method of fighting insomnia. Mindfulness practices - slowing down, being in the moment. Being in the moment means noticing, first, your own physical sensations, second, the thoughts that come into your head, and third, your surroundings (such as air temperature or sounds). Non-judgmental attention will reduce anxiety and relax your baby. At the end of the book are tips for parents. You'll learn what a "snooze" diet is, what role coolness and dimmed lights play in successful tuck-in, and when to go to bed. While working on the book, the authors conducted a study involving 100 families with children from 3 to 11 years old. Parents were asked to read the first version of the story "Sleepy Pebble" to their children on three consecutive evenings. The participants were then asked to answer questions, the main one being "What was the overall effect of reading the story on your child's sleep?". Based on the responses, 80 out of 104 children (77%) showed a positive effect. Get under the covers soon - Sleepy Tales is waiting for you! Good night and sweet dreams. From the authors: We suggest choosing one story each night and reading it just before bedtime. When it's time to read, invite your child to lie down, close his eyes and be quiet for a while. Try to read in a steady, soothing voice, slowly and softly. Explain that this is a special, "sleepy" book, that it is different from the ones you usually read, and that you should listen to it lying in bed. The stories and practices will help your child relax before bedtime. After finishing the story, you should turn out the light and try to keep the bedroom quiet. Now it is time to wish the children sweet dreams.
