The book "Spiritual Treasure Collected from the World" was written by the Saint in 1777 - 1779 during his stay at the Zadon Monastery. It sets forth reflections on God’s wisdom, draws an analogy from the visible to the invisible world, from the corruptible thought is transferred to the incorruptible.

Tikhon Zadonsky defined the purpose of his creation as follows: “As a merchant from different countries collects various goods, and brings them to his house and hides them, a Christian can collect spiritually useful thoughts from this world, and put them in the cages of his heart, and thereby create his soul.”

This book was loved both by Saints Ignatius Bryanchaninov and Theophanes the Recluse, and by writers Gogol and Dostoevsky. In the beauty and musicality of the syllable, it reaches the height of an exceptional poetic work, and in the depth and strength of divine wisdom it stands next to Ecclesiastes.
