The first posthumous collection of M. L. Gasparov's works (in six volumes) aims to convey as fully as possible the multifaceted nature of his scientific interests and to present the main directions of his work. The fourth volume contains his main verse works. This section of his scientific heritage deserves special attention, since Gasparov's name is associated with a significant part of the achievements of Russian verse studies in the second half of the twentieth century. The selection of articles offered here does not pretend to be exhaustive, but is intended to be as representative as possible. In addition to the long-established classics, this volume also includes undeservedly little-known but no less important works by Gasparov, in the neighborhood of which the texts selected by the author himself acquire a new quality. These works are extracted from small editions and have so far been difficult to access for most readers. Also presented here are his encyclopedic articles, where his definitions of the fundamental concepts of verse studies are clearly and concisely formulated. M. L. Gasparov's works on verse studies remain among the most important desk references for all specialists in the history and theory of verse.
