The first posthumous collection of the works of M. L. Gasparov. Gasparov's first posthumous collection of works (in six volumes) aims to convey as fully as possible the multifaceted nature of his scientific interests and to present the main directions of his research. The first volume includes Gasparov's works on anticology, mainly devoted to Ancient Greece. Along with analytical articles, which constitute the main content of the volume and are organized into thematic groups according to genre and chronological principles, the edition includes prefaces and accompanying articles to translations of ancient Greek monuments. They characterize both the work of individual poets (e.g., Pindar) and the artistic specificity of an entire genre (epigrams or fables) in an extremely concise and vivid manner. These articles are inseparable from the translations themselves, fragments of which are included in each thematic section, since in Gasparov's understanding translation is almost the main form of comprehending the ancient heritage. This is also because his most important task was to bring the widest possible audience closer to an understanding of antiquity. That is why this volume opens with "Zamazatel'naya Grecia" - both the most "unscientific" and the most popular of Gasparov's works on antiquity. The idea that unites all of the scholar's diverse works can be seen in it as best as possible: to make ancient texts and ancient authors not only understandable, but also to speak in a language that is natural and close to the reader of the modern age.
