The book is a collection of stories and poems by Kipling, united by a common theme: the relationship between people and dogs. There is service, friendship, love and, alas, betrayal. Sometimes the dogs are told by humans, sometimes the dogs themselves tell about themselves and humans. Many circumstances and living conditions have changed unrecognizably over a hundred years, and the reader will be helped to understand them by the translator's extensive notes. But the main point is clear even without notes: all living creatures have more commonalities than differences. All we have to do is to look closely - and not to wonder. In the translation by S. Sapozhnikov this desire is felt. Some of the stories have not been translated into Russian before. The impression is complemented by illustrations by J. L. Stampa, made for the first editions of the 1930s.
