"Heart of a Dog" is one of Mikhail Bulgakov's most famous and memorable works. With inimitable sarcasm and humor, Bulgakov described Professor Preobrazhensky's unprecedented, risky experiment to transform a dog into a human, creating a brilliant parody of the paradoxical situation of Soviet Russia in the 1930s. This cruel experiment in creating a new "breed" of humans demonstrates that one cannot experiment with nature and alter God's Providence to suit political ends with impunity. The offspring of such experiments are capable of destroying their creators.

The collection also includes other satirical works: "The Diaboliad" and "The Fatal Eggs."

The book includes an introduction by Maria Kotova, PhD in Philology and chief researcher at the Research and Education Department of the M.A. Bulgakov State Museum, and illustrations by Alexei Durasov.
