The new book by candidate of historical sciences Alexei Lobin is devoted to the study of the struggle for Smolensk during the reign of Ivan the Terrible's father Vasily III Ivanovich. A persistent and long war with Sigismund the Old ended with the annexation of Smolensk and the surrounding lands to Russia. The book covers all the military campaigns of 1512-1522, the most important of which were the capture of Smolensk, the battle of Orsha, the defense of Opochka, the campaigns to Vitebsk and Polotsk. Military aspects are studied in detail: the number of parties, armament, tactics. Foreign policy issues, in particular, the formation of an anti-Hellonian military coalition with the Empire, the Teutonic Order and Denmark, are also covered. The book is based on a large number of sources from Russian and foreign archives. The book is intended for all those interested in Russian history.
