Louis-Ferdinand Céline is a classic of twentieth-century literature, a writer with a tragic fate and a reputation as a misanthropist, anarchist, cynic and extreme individualist. Accused of collaboration with the German occupation authorities during World War II, Selin was forced to flee to Germany, and then - to Denmark, where he spends several postwar years: first in prison, and then in exile ... One of the most shocking of his books - "Death on Credit" (1936). In it, the writer, not shy in expressions, harshly and tearfully described all the ugliness of life of the Parisian bottom, which he observed in his youth. Reading about militant amoralism, you will feel with all your pores the abomination of the environment with its hopelessness and lies. However, the novel evokes ambiguous emotions. On the one hand, the pictures of absurdity and injustice awaken feelings of indignation and protest. On the other hand, the author's almost masochistic enjoyment of chaos is surprising. But that is the whole of Céline, whose works still provoke fierce debates and a diversity of opinions.
