Victorian medical detective story. Philadelphia, 1875, the first Women's Medical College. Dr. Lydia Weston, a professor of medicine and anatomist, is obsessed with her profession and wants to pass on her passion for medicine to her students. One day, a frightened girl comes to see her, clearly weighed down by some secret. And soon her body is fished out of the river, the girl's face is damaged beyond recognition, and her clothes are neatly folded on the bank. Death most likely looks like suicide. But Dr. Lydia and her friend, police inspector Volker, doubt whether this is so. An intriguing detective story with an emphasis on characters and a portrait of one of the first women's medical schools.
