The next monograph by A. A. Zdanovich examines the issues of ensuring the security of the Red Army troops in the Belorussian direction in the period from the fall of 1943 to August 1944, including the strategic offensive operation "Bagration". Based on the recently declassified documents of the Smersh directorates of the Belorussian and 1st Baltic fronts, as well as the Main Counterintelligence Directorate of the NKO Smersh, the author of the monograph reflects all areas of work of the army security officers to counteract the intelligence and subversive activities of the German secret services, reveals many new successful operations of Smersh officers, which allowed to keep secret the intentions and plans of the command, to ensure the suddenness of strikes of the Red Army units and formations in the main directions of the operation.
At the same time, the author does not avoid considering the difficulties that arose in the covert confrontation with the enemy. Much attention in the monograph is paid to active behind-the-front activities of Smersh apparatuses to penetrate into the intelligence and sabotage schools of the Abwehr and its field organs attached to Army Group "Center". Due attention is paid to radio games as one of the most sophisticated but effective methods of reducing the enemy's intelligence activity to obtain the information he needed and to disinform him about the plans of the VGK Stavka and the front command.
