A place in Iceland from which everyone wants to escape. But where they inexorably return to live... Or to die.
Elma travels from Reykjavik to coastal Akranes, her home Icelandic town with an oppressive atmosphere, to sort out her life. Barely has she landed a job as an investigator when she is confronted with a grisly case: a woman's corpse is found by teenagers in the vicinity of an abandoned lighthouse. Suicide or murder? It soon becomes clear that everyone knew the deceased... but few want to talk about her.
In the course of the investigation, Elma and other investigators uncover shocking secrets from the victim's past, echoes of which, as it turns out, echo to this day. A number of other long-hidden crimes are uncovered that shock the entire town. But the residents remain silent.
Fear covers the isolated town, where everyone knows each other, but no one knows the truth about each other. Will the police officers be able to solve the mystery of a woman's death, which is the key to unlocking the dark secrets of Akranes?
