Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin (1799–1837) was a Russian poet, writer, playwright, critic, publicist, editor, and publisher. He was the first to use the living language of the people in his works. Even during his lifetime, Pushkin was recognized as the greatest Russian national poet. This collection includes all of Pushkin's fairy tales for children, along with his best poems, which are studied in school—"The Song of the Prophetic Oleg," "Autumn," "Winter Morning," "The Upas Tree," "I Erected a Monument to Myself Not Made by Hands..." and others—as well as the poem "Ruslan and Lyudmila." Explanations are provided for obsolete words and expressions.
