Boris Shergin is a folklorist and storyteller who needs no introduction. His tales are widely known, including thanks to the cartoons "The Magic Ring" (1979), brilliantly voiced by Yevgeny Leonov, and "Shish" (2006) in no less talented voice Nina Usatova. This collection is in a sense a first edition: as illustrations it uses engravings by Nikita Favorsky (1915-1941), which have never been published before. In addition to the engravings by Nikita Favorsky, it includes two engravings by his father Vladimir Favorsky, a friend and admirer of Boris Shergin's talent. The texts of the fairy tales have been checked anew according to the first publications and manuscripts, and traces of layers of "smoothing" editing have been removed from them. The fairy tale "The Magic Ring" is given in the little-known author's version "Vanka Dobroy". The book ends with an article on Nikita Favorsky's engravings, as well as Favorsky family photographs. In the appendix is an exlibris of Nikita Favorsky's "cat of the overseas".
