"How delightful these tales are! Each one is a poem!" wrote Alexander Pushkin. The poet was captivated by the people's creative imagination, fantasy, artistic figurative thinking, and the elemental force of language. Pushkin didn't simply set Russian tales to verse; like a folk storyteller, he altered the plots, incorporating elements of other genres, such as songs, laments, incantations, and even details of foreign-language folklore. In his "Tales," Pushkin experimented with form, but always strove for one goal: to convey the beauty of the Russian language, and through it, the Russian soul. This goal is further exemplified by Vyacheslav Nazaruk's illustrations in the fairytale "Russian style." Drawing not only on folklore but also on the traditions of Russian illustration, the artist created multilayered drawings, intricate in color and ornamentation.
