The outstanding Finnish classic writer Tsakarias Topelius (1818-1898) wrote a great number of wonderful fairy tales and stories for children. The best of them are united in this book by the author's fable about a box of stories. There is nothing but what is there! The reader will meet Tutteli and Putteli, an old man from the moon, a dragonfly that does not freeze in winter, a Christmas goat, domovy, trolls, kings and queens, and even an old pine stump that fulfills wishes, but claims that there is nothing magical in it. On the pages of Topelius' fairy tales ordinary Finnish boys and girls come to life, fairy tales intertwine with the real, elements of fantasy are combined with historical legends. The author constantly inspires his readers with high and noble feelings - love for their neighbors, loyalty to the fatherland, adoration of poetry and fairy tales; he teaches them to despise arrogance and greed. That is why his little masterpieces, born in the bosom of the original nature of the North, are read by more than one generation of children and adults.
