The textbooks by the outstanding Grandmaster Alexander Panchenko are based on lectures he delivered at the All-Russian school he headed, which has trained dozens of top-class chess players. The theoretical sections cover a range of important and complex topics that remain understudied, while the set of exercises is as close as possible to tournament conditions, allowing students to hone the skills necessary for success in modern chess.

While working on the second edition of "Theory and Practice of the Middlegame," one of Panchenko's top students, International Grandmaster Artem Timofeev, made the necessary clarifications and additions, and also prepared a new chapter on attack, written by his teacher.
