The adventure novel "Hearts of Three" became an anniversary, fiftieth composition of the famous American writer Jack London. He wrote it for screen adaptation, so the characteristic feature of the plot of this work is an emphasized dynamism. The text of the novel is printed in translation by Tatiana Alekseevna Kudryavtseva. At the end of the book is printed a short essay about the artist Nikolai Anatolievich Travin, whose illustrations decorate this edition.
Commenting on his fiftieth anniversary novel "Hearts of Three", Jack London noted that none of his other adventure works, the reader will not find such a rapidly developing action. The explanation for this feature is simple - for the first time in his life, the world-famous writer tried to compose a script for cinematography, and most often on the screen people do not talk about their experiences, and act. Taking to describe the adventures of two heroes who went to look for the treasure of his distant ancestor - the famous pirate Morgan, London began to cooperate with an experienced American playwright Charles Goddard. The result is a novel in which events literally rage. "I do not intend to hide that I am proud of this work ... "I advise the reader to immerse himself dive headlong into the narrative, let him then try to tell me that my book is easy to break away," - wrote London about his novel. "Hearts of Three" is truly mesmerizing. Shootouts, chases, stone statues in the jungle, mysterious caves, a cauldron of molten gold, a treasure chest - these and dozens of similar pictures are begging for the screen. "I have certainly never created anything like this until now, and I am almost certain that I will never do so again.... I will be very surprised if this book will not get the widest distribution," - said once the writer and was right. "Hearts of Three" was his last novel, and this work is really widely known. "Hearts of Three" was repeatedly screened, but after the death of the writer. On the basis of the novel, a five-part movie was filmed in the USSR. However, all movie versions of "Hearts of Three" do not convey the fascination and incredible charm of the literary original, because Jack London was and remains a wonderful master of words. The book is decorated with drawings by Leningrad artist Nikolai Anatolievich Travin. Illustrating science fiction adventure works was his favorite work. Among the authors whose stories and novels he illustrated were Alexander Belyaev, Jules Verne, Herbert Wells, Arthur Conan Doyle and Jack London. Readers of the first half of the twentieth century were familiar with a special "Travinsky style". Nikolai Anatolievich graduated from an art school in Barnaul. In the early 20-ies he moved to Petrograd and began to cooperate with the magazines "Around the World", "Chizh" and "Ezh", he worked with the publishing houses "Detgiz" and "Young Guard". Since the mid-30s, the artist lived in Pushkin. Soon after the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, Nikolai Anatolievich moved to Leningrad, where he continued to work until the first blockade winter, which he did not survive.
