This story is the first in the "Family Happiness: Favorite Street" dilogy by the renowned writer, journalist, and teacher Frida Vigdorova (1915-1965).
This book is not only about the life of a Moscow family, about family relationships, love, motherhood, and domestic life—both before and during the war. Family life is connected to everything that happens around it. The story's protagonist, Sasha, works as a nurse in a children's hospital—first in Moscow, then in Tashkent. As in all of Vigdorova's works, "Family Happiness" features the voices of children: Sasha's brother, a teenage schoolboy, her daughter—still a child in the first story of the dilogy—and the children she befriends.
