The Happy Traitor: The Extraordinary Story of George Blake: Lies, Espionage, and Escape to Russia
14.99 €
George Blake, a senior British intelligence officer, worked for the Soviet Union. In 1961, he was sentenced to 42 years in prison for giving the KGB the details of all the Western operations he was involved in and the names of hundreds of British agents working behind the Iron Curtain. It was the longest sentence for espionage ever imposed by a British court. Based on personal interviews with Blake, his own research and Stasi material, journalist and author Simon Cooper traces his hero's journey from a humble teenager, a courier for the Dutch underground during World War II, to a prisoner who made a sensational escape from Warmwood-Scrubs prison and ended his days in a dacha near Moscow at the age of 98.
