1941. Amsterdam is occupied by the Nazis. Professor Josef Held understands that his hometown is now in the power of a destructive force that destroys everything in its path, which knows neither pity nor compassion. And it would seem that Held has no choice but to submit to the new regime, stepping over himself. To do as the majority do - silently resign himself to his fate. But faced with Nazi tyranny, Held can no longer close his eyes. One of his students, Michael Blum, has attracted the attention of the Gestapo. A naive young man whose only crime is that he was born a Jew. Held decides to hide Michael in his attic. The young man tells the professor about his dreams, about his beautiful and fearless girlfriend Elka. Michael is sure that even the war will not separate them. Josef sees the determination in his young friend's eyes, his desperate desire to live, and Held understands that he must help him. But one day, Josef is faced with an impossible choice. In the dark days of war, when danger and betrayal lurk around every corner, no one can be trusted. Michael's life will depend on Josef. Professor Held will have to find the hero within himself and do everything possible to keep Michael alive. Even if he has to put his own life in mortal danger.
