The book is devoted to the history of civil uniforms in the Russian Empire during the period of their emergence and regulation in the second half of the 18th and first half of the 19th centuries. The publication is a detailed reference book prepared on the basis of analyzing legislative sources, archival materials and memoirs of contemporaries. For the first time the information about Russian civil uniforms is given in the most complete and systematized form. The text of the book is illustrated in detail with the author's schematic drawings of uniforms and sewing, historical portraits of officials in uniforms and other images.
The first volume of the edition was published in 2021. In addition to the general history of civil uniforms and the description of individual elements of uniforms, it includes information about the uniforms of provincial nobles and officials and employees of the highest state institutions. The second volume describes the uniforms of civilian ministries and departments, scientific and educational institutions, and charitable organizations. The third and final volume of the publication will be devoted to the uniforms of officials of the Imperial Court, court officials and civilian officials of paramilitary departments. It is of interest to historians, art historians, museum workers, theater and film artists, collectors, and all those interested in Russian history.
