Illustrated album "Russian Sarafan: White, Blue, Red"
"Russian Sarafan: White, Blue, Red" is the first illustrated edition dedicated to the Russian sarafan. The album presents traditional sarafan ensembles, with the help of which readers will familiarize themselves with the main types of sarafans, their purpose, ritual belonging, social and age characteristics. The structure of the publication is based on a new concept: the illustrative material is arranged in accordance with the colors that are fundamental in the national symbolism and that dominate in the coloristics of the Russian sarafan. In separate sections there is information about the main stages of making homespun material, from which sarafans were sewn, about traditional methods of bleaching and other methods of decorating fabrics. The appendix contains cut schemes of authentic museum samples. The main part of the published materials is kept in the Sergiev Posad Museum-Reserve. Exhibits from the collections of the leading Russian museums are also involved in the publication. Most of the sarafans are published for the first time. The book is intended for a wide range of readers, lovers and connoisseurs of folk art. It can be useful to all those who are interested in authentic samples of traditional sarafans, their cut, color and finishing.
