"The Manuscript Found in Zaragoza" is the most significant work of the remarkable Polish scholar, diplomat, traveler, and writer Jan Potocki (1761-1815). A young Spanish officer is in a hurry to return to his unit, but, unable to break the enchanted circle, invariably finds himself near an inn lost in the Sierra Morena mountains, near which gallows with the bodies of two bandits stand. Bright, exciting adventures, mystical events and unexpected plot twists put the novel by Jan Potocki in a row with the greatest works of world literature. The plot of Jan Potocki's book "The Manuscript Found in Zaragoza" is based on the adventures of a young officer. The action of the novel moves from Spain in the early XVIII century in Italy, Sardinia, Malta, Tunisia, Morocco. The reader will visit the coast of the Nile, Lyon and Paris, Mexico and Corsica, and even in ancient Greece and Judea. In "The Manuscript..." one can find features of many genres, from the knave novel to the Gothic, and the events range from mystical to quite realistic.
