The name of the M142 HIMARS multiple launch rocket system stands for High Mobility Artillery Rocket System. This system has already been dubbed the "miracle weapon" of the U.S. Army and attributed to it truly outrageous combat capabilities. "HIMARs are now feared even more than Russian MLRS, although not so long ago Grads, Smerches, Tornadoes and Hurricanes were the first weapons to be feared on the battlefield. Contrary to popular belief, the HIMARS complex is far from new - its production began back in 2003. In total, the Americans have about 400 such installations. Recent combat operations have shown that HIMARS with 227-mm GMLRS guided missiles can deliver surprise precision strikes, which are almost impossible to repel (Lockheed Martin is responsible for the missile equipment of the system). High mobility and appearance similar to an ordinary army truck allow the complex after an attack to evade a retaliatory strike with impunity even before its position is detected. At the same time, the longest-range type of tactical missiles ATACMS gives "Hymars" the ability to hit targets at a distance of up to 300 kilometers, and soon in service will be a missile with a range of 500 km. The new book by a well-known historian of military equipment for the first time in Russia in all details tells about the creation, design, modifications, unguided and guided munitions, analogs and combat use of MLRS "Hymars". The publication is illustrated with a large number of photographs of both the launcher and its armament.
