The monograph is the result of a comprehensive study of political and cultural contacts between Russia and the East Slavic lands of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth of the late XVI - first half of the XVII century, made on the material of various sources. The study proves the incorrectness of one-sided and idealizing ideas about the nature of such contacts and demonstrates how important these contacts were for both parties, which factors contributed to and which hindered their development.
