A novel about Tristan and Isolde

A free prose reconstruction of a medieval poem about the tragic love of the knight Tristan for Isolde, wife of the King of Cornwall, and the conflict between feeling and feudal loyalty. A novel about a love that is stronger than death. Thirteen centuries ago this story turned into a beautiful legend, the storytellers changed, but one thing remained unchanged - the love that united a queen from a distant northern island and the first warrior of Scotland. The myth of Tristan and Isolde is a tale of Tristan's eternal return and Isolde's bitter happiness, of King Mark's generosity and cruelty. The French scholar-philologist Joseph Bédié (1864-1938) spent many years searching for and researching texts related to the legend of Tristan and Isolde, and on the basis of a number of ancient texts reconstructed a possible prototype - a French prose chivalric novel of the middle of the XII century, the source of all subsequent revisions. The fact that the legend is known to this day, we owe not only to the Celts of the seventh century, but also to Joseph Bédié. The plot of the novel has influenced modern culture, from the paintings of the Pre-Raphaelites, to the operas of Richard Wagner, to the works of Salvador Dalí. The novel is published in the classic translation by A. A. Veselovsky and fully designed by artist D. Gordeev.
