Baum's story "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" became a bestseller upon its publication, distinguished by its captivating plot and vibrant illustrations. Baum then began writing other books about the Land of Oz. His whimsical tales of this wondrous magical land sold well and were regularly reprinted in large print runs. After Baum's death, Reilly & Lee offered the opportunity to a young Philadelphia writer, Ruth Plumly Thompson, to continue the Oz series. She accepted the offer and remained, after Baum, the "royal historian of Oz" until 1939. During this time, she wrote nineteen books about the inhabitants of this wonderful land and wrote two more stories much later. This edition contains Ruth Thompson's first book, "The Oz Genealogical Book," and Baum's short story collection, "The Wonderful Stories of Oz."

In "The Genealogy of Oz," the Scarecrow journeys to the cornfield where Dorothy once met him: for the first time, he begins to wonder about his ancestors and yearns to find his roots. "The Wonderful Stories of Oz" will tell readers about the new adventures of the Cowardly Lion, the Tin Woodman, little Dorothy, and other heroes who inhabit this extraordinary land.
