The individuality of faces is a subject of interest to everyone, and especially to those who have at least a little talent for drawing. Once we begin to understand the reason for the differences in faces, the subject becomes all-consuming. Faces not only make us stand out, but they say a lot about each of us. Thoughts, emotions, worldview, and even our lifestyles are imprinted on our faces. The mobility of the flesh - in other words, facial expressions - gives a face more than just uniqueness. Let me tell you right away: you are not required to be able to "look into the soul" or read minds to draw a head well. It requires first and foremost a proper interpretation of shapes in proportion, perspective, and lighting. All other qualities appear in the drawing as a result of interpreting the form. If the artist gets it right, the "soul", or character, will be revealed. It is also very important for an artist to be able to draw hands convincingly, and my book contains material on this subject as well.
